You can cook anything you like to cook using a salt plate. But, the most popular meals are fish, beef, scallops, chicken, shrimp and steak that people most often use to cook on a Himalayan salt plate or block. You can cook different meals in a salt block; however, the cooking process will remain almost the same for everyone.
Here are the necessary instructions that you should follow as a beginner:
First of all, you will have to ensure that you pick the most appropriate salt bloc and the most appropriate block should be at least 1” thick. However, it is preferred to use a salt block that is 1.5” or more thick.
If you are using an electric range, then you should place a pastry ring or a metal object on the stove top to maintain a difference between the block and the heat source. If using a gas range, then there is no need to put anything between the heat source and the salt block. So, just put the salt block on the stove top if using a gas range.
You should start heating the block at the medium temperature and allow it to heat for at least 10 to 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes, now you should set the temperature high and heat it for another 10 to 15 minutes to get the desired temperature.
Now, start the cooking process and do not move the meal too much. Just wait for the one side to be cooked, and then just flip it to the other side to cook the other area of the meal. While cooking, you will see that the salt block will change its colours with time. Don’t worry because it is natural and perfectly OK.
After your meal is cooked, now you should wait and let the salt block cool down just according to the room temperature. Here, you would need to show patience because it will not cool down quickly. It will probably take at least 4 hours to cool down completely. So, right after it cools down to the room temperature, now you should rinse it under the warm water. Remove the food that is sticking to it by scrubbing vigorously and rinse with water again to wash it.
